Croup is a highly contagious respiratory infection which primarily affects on babies and young toddlers. A characteristic barking cough and raspy breathing are among the symptoms of this disease, which causes swelling of your child’s windpipe (trachea) and voice box (larynx). Although the symptoms of croup are typically mild, they can become serious and even fatal.
Croup is most common among children who are 3 years old or younger. It is mainly because after three years of old their wind pipes become larger and swelling isn’t become that large enough to narrow the air passage through wind pipes.
Symptoms of Croup
- Barking Cough: A type of harsh cough that resembles a seal’s bark is caused by inflammation and swelling in the larynx (voice box), due to a viral infection by parainfluenza

What causes Croup?
